How to take care of your baby's umbilical stump
For cleaning you must have Alcohol, gauze and antibiotic powder
Using alcohol, start from the base closer to the abdomen (skin) and move towards the end of the stump; try not to pull at it and only move it sideways. You will receive your baby with a plastic clamp on his stump, in 2 weeks the doctor will remove it and you will use the same process for cleaning
Sprinkle some antibiotic powder concentrating on the base of the stump. Do not use ointments.
The umbilical stump should be cleaned with every diaper change. For proper and fast healing, fold the diaper under the belly button, so that the umbilical cord is exposed to air rather than a wet diaper. You must avoid giving your baby tub baths; instead sponge clean him with a wet wash cloth until it falls off.
